CNMF Concert of Miniatures

In the final concert of the Charlotte New Music Festival, Beo String Quartet will perform a set of miniatures composed by the participants. The catch is that the participants will do all of the composing while at the festival, and base those compositions on a common theme or idea which will not be revealed until the festival begins. Then Beo will have a few short days to learn all of the works and perform them in concert, and a winner will be selected by all audience members. As if that doesn't sound fun enough already, the performance will take place at the Lenny Boy Brewery in Charlotte, NC... so come and enjoy some drinks while you enjoy the show!

Quaker Valley - Beethoven and List

Come and hear Beo perform one of Beethoven's masterpieces, his String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat Major, Op. 74, often called the "Harp". The nickname (given to the work by Beethoven's publisher) refers to the melodic pizzicato sections heard in the first movement of the work, which are reminiscent of how the plucking of a harp might sound. The quartet is often compared to his fifth Symphony in terms of scope, although it has a surprising final movement in that it is a simple theme and variations.

The second work on the program will be Andrew List's String Quartet No. 5, "Time Cycles". Written in 2015, this string quartet is made up of five movements based on the texts of Four Quartets by poet TS Eliot, and takes the listener on a journey of varying emotions and soundscapes. Andrew List is Professor of Composition at Berklee College of Music, Boston MA.
